Peugeot
Peugeot is part of PSA Peugeot Citroen, the second largest carmaker based in Europe and the eighth-largest in the world according to production units. The Paris-based group has international joint ventures with other carmakers including Toyota, Mitsubishi, BMW and General Motors.
PSA Peugeot Citroen operates in Iran through a manufacturing agreement with Iran Khodro, Iran’s leading Iranian automaker.[1] Iran Khodro manufactures and sells several Peugeot models including the Peugeot 206, 405 and Roa [2]. Over half a million Peugeot vehicles were produced in Iran in 2010 alone, making Peugeot the leading foreign auto manufacturer in Iran.[3] Peugeot has also been cited as having “more expatriate employees in Iran than any other western company.”[4] Sixty percent of the Peugeot 207i’s parts are produced locally in Iran, with plans to increase that number to 90%.[5]
In March 2012, Peugeot entered into a joint development and procurement alliance with General Motors, in which GM would acquire a 7% stake in Peugeot. At the same time, the U.S. government holds a 31.9% stake in GM, which could expose Peugeot and GM to U.S. sanctions. [6]
